We finally got moved out of our apartment on April 29 and spent the first night as full timers in the parking lot of our apartment complex. One should always start out slow we always say. Besides we were too tired to hook up the pickup and find a place to settle in for the night. We pulled out early Saturday morning and headed to the Vineyards Campground on Lake Grapevine in Grapevine. As we left the apartment complex we decided to top off the fuel tank since prices were creeping up. When we pulled in, there were no pumps available that would allow us room to pull in, so we waited. Sherree decided to check out the pump farthest from where we pulled in and signaled to pull over there. I wasn't sure we could make the turn, but she was confident. Didn't make the turn. The pickup cut the corner and was about to run into the pumps. After several attempts we had to disconnect the pickup from the tow bar and back it up. By now there were people waiting and probably thinking, "What kind of idiot tries to pull and 40 ft. motor home with a 14 ft. toad into a space like that." We finally topped of the tank, hooked up the pickup and headed out before we were shot. As we headed down the service road, Dudley suddenly thought that maybe in all the excitement he had forgot to disconnect the drive shaft on the pickup after we hooked it back up. Into the nearest parking lot we turned. Thankfully he had not forgotten, but it was another delay.
Actually before all this we lost the keys to the waterproof/fireproof safe we had bought a couple of days before. We thought this was a good idea in case of a fire or whatever. Of course we had put some important documents in it and put the keys safely away where we would remember. We obviously did not remember. Tired to find a locksmith with a storefront but had no luck. Decided we would need to pry the safe open when we had time. Another $40 down the drain. Thankfully we found the keys a couple of days later and the safe was saved.
Finally arrived at the campground after being held up in traffic due to road construction in the 121/114 corridor in Grapevine, and headed for the spot we had reserved a week earlier. No problem getting set up. There was an issue with the height of the first step. The site slopped down somewhat from the street and the first step was about 3 ft. from the ground. Got a lot of leg exercise for the whole week. That night, Dudley suddenly came down with leg cramps in his hamstring. Howled like a little kid. Sherree's comment. "Now you know what it feels like". She has been suffering with leg cramps off and on for several years.
All in all we had a good week in Grapevine. It did rain for several days and it was cold and Sherree's coats were packed away underneath. We did however get to do some organizing. Made several trips to the Container Store to buy and exchange different items.
We have been in Lubbock for almost 3 weeks now and the adventures have not stopped. More about that later.
